David Ortiz Press Conference

August 8, 2009

David Ortiz held a press conference this morning from Yankee Stadium to tell the sports world that he never buy steroids or use steroids. He also said that back in those days he did not pay as much attention to what suppliments he was taking as he should have.

Ortiz was reported last week Thursday to be on the dreaded list, he waited 10 days to make a public statement and was questioned why he waited if he had not taken steroids and may have been just some suppliments he was taking? He responded that he wanted to get all the facts and talk to the union before he made any statement. I think its good he waited and did he research befroe he talked to the media.

Looking at Ortiz during the press conference he looked posed and confident. I fully believe that he may have tested positive for something but not steroids. Remember that andronsinedione was not a banned suppliment back in 2003, but could show up on a drug test very well could have been taking something like that.

The other intersting fact I found was that the players union rep stated that as part of the 2003 testing there were 83 confirmed positive test, not 83 players that tested positive, but 83 results. There were also 13 cases that the players union said were inconclusive and that since the 83 positive had put them over the 5% threshhold that triggered there was no need to investigate those 13.

I am pretty sure that David Ortiz will not be the last player to face the media to defend thier name in regards to “The List”.

R.I.P Jim Johnson

August 5, 2009

While we focus mainly on Wisconsin sports here at Brewcity Sports, we do want to pay our respects to Jim Johnson defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. Johnson in my opinion is the best defensive coordinator in the game today and quite possibly of all time.

Rest in Peace Jim Johnson and we would also like to pass along our condolences to his wife and family.

Brewers get Slaughtered

August 5, 2009

You can go to ESPN.com, Yahoo Sports, The Milwaukee Journal, or any other traditional sports reporting site and you get all the facts and figures and play-by-play. But all you need to know it that the Brewers got slaughtered in the worst game of the season. Brewers lost 17-4 Tuesday night allowing the Dodgers to match the most runs scored in a single game since 1979.

The bigger story seems to be the Prince Fielder was said to have stormed down to the Dodgers clubhouse doorway to confront Mota who hit Fielder with a pitch in the ninth inning. Dodgers admitted it was retaliation for Chris Smith hitting Ramierez in the seventh inning.

With the blowout and both teams taking shots at each teams best hitters, it will set up an intriguing game between the two teams tonight.

Brewers Win 2 in a Row

August 4, 2009

Monday the Brewers move thier 9 game road trip to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers. In a clique type moment Manny Ramirez found himself with the chance to win the game. Bases loaded, 2 out in the bottom of the ninth and the games best closer Trevor Hoffman on the mound. Hoffman, even with what he said was not his best stuff on the mound, got Ramirez to fly out to right to clinch the win.

Brewers get 8 strong innings from Manny Parra giving up only 6 hots and 1 run before he entered the ninth inning where he gave two hits to start the inning. Parra was relieved by Trevor Hoffman, in my opinion the best closer in the game today maybe even of all time, who gave up a first pitch double and a single to cut Milwaukee’s lead to one run. Then the Dodgers loaded the bases with a bunt and a hit batsmen, then Ramirez steps to the plate.

Brewers got a great day from Ryan Braun who had a 4 hit game including a three run homer.  Brewers win two game in a row beating the Dodgers 6-5.

Brewers get 1 out of 3

August 2, 2009

The Milwaukee Brewers rallied the troops today to win 6-1 against the San Diego Padres. Brewers avoid the sweep which is little consolation, however they saw some nice things out of the pitching staff. Brewers got 5 strong innings out of  Villanueva allowing only 2 hits but walking 4. Overall Brewers pitching allowed 1 run on 5 hits, walking 8 and striking out 7. Compare to the last couple games a good day.
